Week 40 - H2

Hi Everyone!
We are doing great!!!  I love Elder Kennedy!! We are like the same guy. Both huge nerds who love to listen to crazy music. We bonded while we were walking with ANOTHER FLAT yesterday! (it does not help that there is a broken beer bottle on the ground every three feet) We talked all about Pokemon, Zelda, and the crazy rock music that we both love. I had a really good week. Thanks for the package with the longhorn and root beer barrels. I love the tie so much!!!!! And the candies are really good! haha It made me super happy!

Elder Kennedy's Spanish is getting better every day. I am working on getting him to share more in each lesson. Seeing his progression is so cool!! Wanna know something?  I can speak Spanish. That is pretty cool to me. And the craziest part, I can walk up and talk to strangers with no hesitation now. It is the weirdest thing ever!!  (All this from a boy who wouldn't even call a store to ask a question!)

I'm sorry to hear the Gma Linda isn't doing well.  I have been praying that she could be comfortable. I have learned a lot about prayer lately and that sometimes praying for what we want might actually be damaging or hurtful to others. If we pray for a tailwind, someone else gets a headwind. We need to make sure that we ask for things that will help us through our struggles and trials in life. I take a lot of comfort in knowing that we will have the opportunity to see our family again after this life. I have felt really strongly that Gma will be ok. She will be resting in spirit paradise with those that have already passed on. She will be watching over us and helping us out when we need it.  I love her and Gpa.  I sent Gpa an email in Spanish, make sure he reads it.

Here is what is up with our work and our new friends:  I. has been in the Hospital all week and we have not been able to see her. Her kids are living with their aunt. We have been trying really hard to see them or to find out which hospital they are in, to no avail.

   D. (with Elder Unick) is working on getting married still. They sound like they are doing great!
We have seven new investigators on date right now; A., K., I2, R., N, & A2 and his wife.

Oh, I was really scared last night in a complex. Sketchy people followed us around. We made three loops around this same little square and they followed us the whole time. I eventually pulled my keys out and pretended like I was going into an apartment. They left after that.

I took some awesome pics this week, but I left my camera at home... I will try to remember it next week. haha I love you!
Talk to you next TUESDAY!! Monday is a holiday.

Week 39 - H2

Dear Family,

Being a trainer is the best thing in the world!!  It is so much fun to help my "son" learn how to be a missionary and to teach him Spanish!!  His name is Elder Kennedy and he is from Marysvale, Utah. He and I are really, really similar.  Our humor is like the exact same, we will be having lots of fun together!!  We have been working on Spanish and how to teach missionary lessons in a second language.  I am making sure to go slow and take all the necessary time to study every day!!!  I made sure that he has lots of food, and free access to any of my food.  I want to make sure that he knows my primary calling right now is to help him become a missionary.  One way I am doing that is by trying to be his best friend.  We've got some good goals set this week, it should be a good one. There is a food pantry that we go to every Wednesday for service hours so that will be fun.

Last week was pretty good.  Lots of crazy rain and humidity, but for the most part we are doing just fine.   Flat tires were trying to hedge up the work....but we won't let 'em!!
     I. and the boys are the only investigators that I still have.  Elder Unick and I had to divide up the areas, and the lines we came up with only left me with I. and her boys.  They should be getting baptized this week.  They were supposed to get baptized two weeks ago and then last week, but things came up and we couldn't.  D. and the others are being visited by Elder Unick and Elder Cooper.

Zone Conference is coming up on September 1, my ear is getting itchy Mom. (The Mission President's wife takes a video of the zones singing and then posts it to facebook and Elder Grimes scratches his ear as the camera comes by him to send an 'I love you' home)

I want to give you two scriptures this week:
John 10: 14-15. The Lord knows us all individually.
Alma 37:6-7 Through small and simple things, like giving someone a pass along card, we can all be missionaries.
Thanks for the emails this week family, Sharon, Jaide, Spjute, Grimaldo, and Lezsynski.
Outta fresh time!
I love you all and will talk to you next week!!!

Week 38 - H2

I'M TRAINING!!! Elder Unick and I will both be getting Trainees on Wednesday.  Really excited and nervous, but I know that the Lord will Help me to train this new missionary.  I will for sure take all the time we need to do all of our studies, I remember how hard that was at first.  We will still be in H2 and still on bikes.  Elder Unick and I have the task of chopping the areas up as we feel will work the best.  Our ideas right now work pretty well,  I will get a bigger area than the one I had with Elder Spjute,  but that will not be an issue.   We have a huge week ahead of us.  I don't want to jinx it right now, but I am really excited.

Thank you guys for being so interested in this work.  Here is a run down this week:

I. got a call yesterday during Relief Society with some bad news about her husband.
D. also had a bad day yesterday and she came inside the church bawling.
A. and R. did not come to church, but we saw them yesterday and they said that something came up and they will be there next week.
A2. totally understands everything that we teach him and has accepted a baptismal date for the third of September!
S. she is doing well. We just keep trying to visit her.

Please pray for them to be comforted.

We also had this guy in church yesterday who is the fiance of one the sisters in the ward. His soon to be father in law asked us if we would translate for him (he wants to join the church and learn Spanish) we were super excited to do that. After church he gave us his address and said come over as often as you can.  And then he asked us "After I get baptized, what do I have to do to go to the Temple with my wife?"   Baptism isn't even a question for him.  Haha super cool guy!

We had two exchanges this past week and they were really fun.
I love you all, I am really excited for this huge responsibility this week.

Week 37 - H2

Thank you so much for sharing that story about Ammon with me!
That is something that I need to remember, that I need to rely on the Lord and do everything that I can to bring the 'flock' to the 'place of water'. I gotta have a vision to baptize if I am ever going to help people progress here. haha

Guess what!!! We taught 22 lessons this week!!!!!!!! AAAAAAAHHHHHH that is so many!  All of our lessons are taught in Spanish so my Spanish is coming along nicely. I can say pretty much anything I want and I understand most people. We sometimes run into Cubans and they speak so fast that it is tough to understand them.

D. is ready for baptism but we are working on getting the marriage license and stuff. We keep teaching her but she is ready. I. and her sons J. and V. are super fun! S. is a mom who accepted a baptismal date for the third of September.  A2. is pretty cool, we have only seen him twice and for like five minutes each time. He read through the pamphlet we gave him though - that is a win. A. and R. are a couple of older people who just want to learn about God.

Thank you all for that awesome package!! it was super fun to get it!! The little wooden mole from Prague is silly. Please tell Grandma and Grandpa thanks for me.

So I go into the bathroom the other morning to shower after working out and little roachie (3 inches, see pic) is just chillin on the wall. ugh. So I showered and then shaved while he just kinda meandered around the bathroom. Then I sprayed him with permethrin and smashed him with a toilet brush. :D

I got my bike fixed, it got a new chain and a new derailer.  Did you guys know that the spokes on bike tires don't work like a wagon wheel? They don't push the wheel out from the center. They are all weighted and pull in. Just a fun little tidbit I picked up this week.

I love you guys!!
Gotta go!

I'm a sweaty missionary...and this is after being indoors for several minutes.

Week 36 - H2

Hello Everyone,
D is doing great!  This week we got 7 new investigators!  We found a family, a couple, and two others. I. J. & V.; A. & R.; K.; A2.  We found them by being outside all day, everyday. Yes Mom,  I have sunscreen. I sweat if off after about 10 minutes though. It is so bad that my forearms drip.  Sometimes I feel like I have been tossed into a burning sweat hole and told to ride my bike until I die of dehydration.
Oh, I spoke in Sacrament Meeting yesterday and taught Gospel Principles right after that.  We taught the third lesson in the manual. It is about Christ becoming our leader and being chosen to become our Savior.

Thanks for the package last week.  To answer Mom's question, "How does 1/3 feel?"  Crazy. Super cool that it has been that long.
Also, my bike exploded this morning. ugh. The shifting mechanism on the back of the bike basically turned inside out and got all bent up in the spokes.  So we will see about that this week.  Sorry this is so short, I'm out of time for today.
Love you,
Elder Grimes
