Week 63 - Manvel

This week is going to be hard.
I have to live in a member's home for the entire week because I am STILL really sick. boo. I was throwing up blood yesterday. And just when I thought I was over it.  I am constantly sick, and food won't stay inside of me for more than three hours.  I went to a doctor and she gave me an antibiotic. They think it might be an infection, they could not do blood work though, so that one is a tossup. I will see what I can do, but if I do not get better soon, I think President might have to send me home... I hate that thought. I don't want to go home.

On another note, we had a mission conference with Elder and Sister Zwick.  I saw HR and got to talk to him a lot.  He is in H2 right now. haha
The Zwicks are awesome! One thing that really stood out to me was that we need to simplify the way we teach. Something I can see in myself is that as I get better at speaking Spanish, my teaching gets more and more complex. I just need to slow down and simplify. That is pretty cool.
Another thing I realized this week is that all of these dumb trials and struggles that I am going through are teaching me. Helping me to develop Christlike attributes. I feel like you guys would be blown away at how much I have "grown up" in this last month alone.
I have to go now. Wish me luck.

Love you guys,
Elder Grimes

Week 62 - Manvel

I hope you had a Happy Birthday Mom, I am still super sick and the Dr. had no idea what is wrong with me.  It has been a few weeks of feeling tired and sick.  The closest guess is some sort of stomach infection.  I need to see another doctor to follow up.  Yes I saw the new elder Grimes. My new companion, Elder Woodward, is super cool. I will send a birthday thing soon. We had a hectic sick week. ugh.
I'm sorry we are late and I don't have time to write.
I gotta go, Love ya!!

Week 61 - Manvel

One thing that really stuck out to me from the missionary broadcast this last week was having the mindset of "You know what you need to do, now go do it." That is something that I want to work on for the rest of my life.

I am losing both of my companions and taking over this area.  I will miss these guys.
My new comp for the upcoming transfer will be Elder Woodward.
I'm sending a picture (below) of the Correa family. They are awesome! She is due with her baby on Feb 12 and they asked me to stand in on the baby blessing!  I'm glad I'll still be here.
I was really sick this week. (again) I spoke with the nurse this week and she had me start eating bland and soft foods but that hasn't really stopped my symptoms.  I am going to Urgent Care today and hopefully getting this under control.
Again, sorry so short but, "You know what you need to do, now go do it."

I love you all,
Elder Grimes
The wonderful Correa family.
 Our good friend, Jose
 The three amigos.

Week 60 - Manvel

Hello Everyone,

I got to go to the Houston Temple this week and it was an unforgettable experience! I love being able to go to the House of the Lord and to be reminded of the Covenants that I have made, and the blessings I have been promised as I am obedient!
Sitting in the Temple I had the opportunity to reflect on everything that had to happen to get me there that day. I thought of the examples of Priesthood leadership and how I was raised. An interesting word has been in my mind for the last few days. That word is posterity. Really interesting how our faithfulness has an impact on our posterity!

I've been sick this week, I don't know what I have but the other guys aren't sick.  I keep drinking and I'll get a blessing later today so this week should be better.  We've given up on the fleas, we only see one or two every couple of days now.  The biggest bummer is that we are out of miles and haven't been able to get up to see B. and A. has slowed down.  They are such great people and I'm so glad that I have met them.

Sorry this is so short, enjoy these pictures.

I love you all,
Elder Grimes
Elder Bird gave me a haircut this week...I think he did a great job!

 The Houston Temple
 I love this place!
 My eternal family.
 Temple day with these guys.
 Until next week.

Week 59 - Manvel

Oh hey,
We had a great week.  We finally got permission from B.'s parents to be able to teach her the other day!!! So now we can help her progress toward baptism. That was probably the highlight of the week.  A. is doing really well too.  They were both at church on Sunday.  That was fun.

It sounds like a lot of stuff is going to be new for you guys this week.  Here is a quote I love from Devan G. Durrant.  He says, "Exercise your faith, discipline yourself, and do it."   This is something that I have had to do a lot lately.  The Discipline yourself part is the hardest part.  We have to work to be able to receive blessings.  It is hard to do, and it is almost impossible to see sometimes, but I testify that it will be worth it!

This week we have interviews in Sugarland tomorrow, other than that we will be doing everything possible to teach the gospel.  It will be a good week.

Sorry so short, gotta go.
I love you all!

Week 58 - Manvel

  1. Hey Fam,
Asombro me da el amor que me da Jesús.
Confuso estoy por Su gracia y por Su luz,
    y tiemblo al ver que por mí Él Su vida dio;
por mí, tan indigno, Su sangre Él derramó.
  2. Cuán asombroso es que por amarme así
muriera Él por mí. Cuán asombroso es lo que dio por mí.
  3. Me cuesta entender que quisiera Jesús bajar
    del trono divino para mi alma rescatar;
que Él extendiera perdón a tal pecador
y me redimiera y diera Su gran amor.
  4. Cuán asombroso es que por amarme así
muriera Él por mí. Cuán asombroso es lo que dio por mí.
  5. Comprendo que Él en la cruz se dejó clavar.
Pagó mi rescate; no lo podré olvidar.
    Por siempre jamás al Señor agradeceré;
mi vida y cuanto yo tengo a Él daré.
This is 'Asombro me da'
My favorite hymn is Spanish. In English it is 'I stand all amazed'
read through it in English when you get the chance. I love it. Just know that the translation leaves out a lot of meaning.  There are some things that you can't translate from Spanish to English.

B., A., H., R., and the G. family are all doing great!!

Also, Pretty sure the fleas are gone, Which is really nice. haha I threw out all of my bedding and got a sleeping bag. I have been using a sleeping bag for the last 2 weeks.
And -Yes we have fun plans this week, we get to teach the gospel!!!
Have a great week, I love you!

 All in a days work
There is a Hispanic tradition called 'La rosca de Reyes'. They celebrate that on January, 6th. That is when the three wise men bring all of the children their presents.  They make this big cake thing and put three little plastic people in it. Whoever gets a little people has to make tamales for the whole family! Elder Bird got one!
Utah isn't the only place with freaky weather...BRRR
We had to stop by the mission office this week so Elder Burke took us to Taco Bell.
Another district just happened to be there right after their district meeting.

Week 57 - Manvel

Hi Fam!
What it is my doge?!  Those pictures of Emma and the snowman are cute.
I do not miss snow.  Like, at all.
New years was pretty fun! We had to be home by 8 pm. then we taped glow-sticks to our ceiling fan. We then fell on the floor and watched the glow-stick light show. We joked and talked until midnight then casually said, "woo, let's go to bed now." it was awesome!
So yeah, we have fleas in this new apartment.  We told everyone the second we noticed that we had been feasted upon by the little demons. Our complex cannot do anything until the 9th, so we got these "Flea Foggers" at Walmart and set them off in the apartment. That helped a lot, we are going to get some more and send all of the little jumpy piles straight back to heck.

    B. is doing awesome! She keeps telling us how much she wants to get baptized and follow Christ. The only problem is that her parents will not allow her to get baptized.
We also have; A., H., C., J., and other J. haha  They are all doing pretty well.
A. is the mom of a recent convert and she is the coolest old lady ever.  She is going to be baptized on the 28th of this month. We want her son to do it, wouldn't that be neat?
Hey Mom, I Stand All Amazed made me cry in Sacrament yesterday.

Something that really caught my attention this week was in 2 Nephi 32:3.
Angels speak by the power of the Holy Ghost; wherefore, they speak the words of Christ. Wherefore, said unto you,
feast upon the words of Christ; for behold, the words of Christ
will tell you all things what ye should do.
I love how it says to Feast upon the words of Christ. In Spanish it commands us to delight ourselves in the words of Christ. That is so much more than just reading the scriptures. We have to make them part of us. Part of our everyday lives. As we do this they will tell us all things that we should do.
Love ya framily!!!  (misspelled on purpose)
Elder Grimes

Hey, as a missionary, I would much rather get a weekly letter than a weekly email.  Just food for thought ;P
Hermana Yanas made us some really good food.
 Ohhh, scary....
